storytelling and video marketing diagram

In today’s digital world, video has become an essential component of business marketing strategies. It has the power to engage, inform, and convert potential customers like no other medium can. Pretty much every social media platform revolves around video. In short, video is king (just look at our cool image above if you don’t believe us!) However, creating and implementing an effective video marketing strategy requires careful planning and execution. In this blog post, we’ll provide you with 5 essential tips for using video in your business marketing strategy. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your existing video marketing to the next level, these tips will help you get started with some if the best practices for videos that drive traffic, generate leads, and grow your business. So, let’s dive in and explore the power of video marketing!

Tip 1: Define Your Goals and Audience

Setting clear goals and identifying your target audience are essential steps in any business marketing strategy, and video marketing is no exception. Defining your goals will help you to understand what you want to achieve with your videos, and who you are trying to reach. Without a clear understanding of your audience, it’s difficult to create video content that resonates with them and drives engagement. Where do they consume most of their content? What age group do they fit in? What demographics define what might capture their attention? To define your goals and audience, consider the following tips:

• Determine your desired outcome: Whether it’s to increase brand awareness, generate leads, or drive conversions, understanding your desired outcome will help you create video content that aligns with your business objectives.

• Identify your target audience: Think about who your ideal customer is, their demographics, interests, and pain points. This will help you create content that speaks directly to them.

• Conduct market research: Use data and insights to inform your video marketing strategy. Analyze your competitors, conduct surveys or focus groups, and use social media analytics to gain a deeper understanding of your target audience.

• Create buyer personas: Develop detailed profiles of your target customers that include information such as age, gender, job title, interests, and goals. This will help you create content that is tailored to their needs and preferences.

• Test and refine: As you create video content, continually test and refine it to ensure that it is resonating with your target audience and driving the desired outcomes. Use analytics to measure the success of your videos and make adjustments as needed.

By defining your goals and audience, you can create video content that is engaging, but most importantly relevant.

Tip 2: Create a Video Marketing Plan

Once you have defined your goals and audience, the next step is to create a comprehensive video marketing plan that you can implement into your main marketing strategy. A well-crafted video marketing plan will help you to stay organized, consistent, and ensure that your videos align with your business objectives.

Here are some key elements to consider when creating a video marketing plan:

• Develop a content strategy: Define the types of videos you will create and the topics that you will cover. Consider the various stages of the buyer’s journey and create content that aligns with each stage. This step is crucial in your process.

• Set a budget: Determine how much you are willing to spend on video production, and allocate your budget accordingly. Consider the cost of equipment, production, editing, and promotion.

• Choose your video hosting platform: Determine where you will host your videos. Popular platforms include YouTube, Vimeo, and Wistia. Each platform has its own advantages and disadvantages, so choose one that aligns with your business objectives.

• Create a video production schedule: Plan out your video production schedule to ensure that you are consistently creating and publishing new videos. Consider how often you will create new content and the timelines for each step of the production process.

• Determine your promotion strategy: Define how you will promote your videos and reach your target audience. Consider social media, email marketing, and paid advertising as potential promotion channels.

• Measure and analyze your results: Use analytics to measure the success of your video marketing strategy. Analyze your video metrics, track engagement, and adjust your strategy as needed.

Tip 3: Produce High-Quality Videos

Now… wait a second. I know you’re probably saying “YOU DON’T SAY” making the same face as our dear friend Nick Cage. But you’d be surprised how many people take this undeniable element for granted. The quality of your videos can have a significant impact on viewer engagement and your overall video marketing success.

Creating high-quality videos can help to establish your brand as professional and credible and can increase the likelihood of viewers sharing your content. However, it is worth noting that each audience and each platform may have different standards of what “high quality” means. In my opinion, regardless of where you’re posting your content, having beautiful and captivating images will always be a great hook for anyone scrolling past your video, so here are some tips if you want to produce high-quality videos on your own:

• Invest in quality equipment: The quality of your equipment can significantly impact the overall quality of your videos. Investing in a good camera can be a good idea, lighting is absolutely essential, and audio equipment can help ensure that your videos are clear, well-lit, and sound professional. Worth noting that before the camera, comes the light (you know… LIGHTS, camera, action?). You’re probably reading this on your cellphone right? Well with practice framing an image and the proper use of light, that magical little rectangle in your hand has more than enough for most general video content!

• Focus on the storytelling: Regardless of your equipment’s quality, storytelling makes your videos memorable and effective. Focus on telling a compelling story that resonates with your audience and effectively communicates your message. You could have a million-dollar production fall flat if it’s not backed with a properly written story.

Keep it concise: Attention spans are short, and viewers are unlikely to watch lengthy videos. Keep your videos brief, and aim to communicate your message within the first 15 SECONDS of your video. For videos that need more time try and keep them in under two minutes.

• Use high-quality graphics and animations: High-quality graphics and animations can help to make your videos more engaging and visually appealing. So make sure that PNG of your logo doesn’t blur and pixelate when you see it on the screen.

• Incorporate music and sound effects: Have you ever seen those videos where they replace intense movie scenes with funny music? Notice how it completely changes the mood and feel of the scene? Well, that’s because music and sound help create that connection between what we’re seeing and how to interpret it. If you ask any editor they will say 90% of the edit time is spent looking for the right music and this is the reason why. There are a massive amount of free and paid royalty-free music sites to choose from — our favorite is musicbed.

Producing the video the right way can be an extremely daunting task, especially if you have limited experience, so as a bonus tip I’ll just add that your best bet is probably to hire a professional video production company. If they’re anything like us, they’ll help you from coming up with the idea all the way to how to make sure it gets seen and drives results for your business.

Tip 4: Optimize Your Videos for Search Engines

Optimizing your videos for search engines can help your videos rank higher in search results and increase your overall visibility. Search engines like Google have bots that “crawl” your website, social media, etc., to try and find high-quality content related to specific keywords in your niche.

Here are some tips for optimizing your videos for search engines:

• Conduct keyword research: Research the keywords and phrases that your target audience is searching for and incorporate them into your video titles, descriptions, and tags.

Create a compelling video title: Your video title is the first thing that viewers will see, so make it compelling and keyword-rich. Keep it concise, but also descriptive enough to convey what the video is about. Make sure you don’t fall into click-bait title territory though. Nobody likes those people.

• Write a detailed video description: Your video description should provide a detailed overview of what your video is about and include your target keywords. Consider including timestamps of important parts of your video to help viewers quickly navigate to the information they need.

• Use tags: Use relevant tags for your videos to help search engines understand what your video is about.

• Create a custom thumbnail: Custom thumbnails can increase the click-through rate of your videos, which can help to increase their visibility in search results.

• Transcribe your video: Most people start watching a video with the sound off. Transcribing your video and adding subtitles can help to make it more accessible to viewers and also increase its visibility in search results. Include the transcription in the video description or upload it as a separate file.

VI. Tip 5: Leverage Social Media

Social media platforms provide an excellent opportunity to promote your videos and reach a wider audience locally and worldwide. By leveraging social media, you can increase your video’s visibility, drive engagement, and build brand awareness. Here are some tips for effectively leveraging social media for your video marketing strategy:

• Choose the right social media platforms: Consider your target audience and their preferred social media platforms. Choose the platforms that are most relevant to your audience and align with your video marketing goals.

• Optimize your social media profiles: Optimize your social media profiles by including relevant keywords, creating compelling descriptions, and adding links to your website or landing pages.

• Promote your videos: Share your videos on your social media platforms and encourage your followers to engage with them. Consider using paid promotion options to reach a wider audience and boost engagement.

• Engage with your audience: Respond to comments, messages, and questions from your followers. Engage in conversations and build relationships with your audience. And no this doesn’t mean reply with fire emojis and praying hands, unless they’re bot comments, screw those guys. Genuinely engage with your audience. This not only drive your engagement in the algorithm but it helps create a sense of community with your audience.

• Analyze your social media metrics: Use analytics to track engagement, reach, and other social media metrics. Analyze the data to understand what is working and what can be improved.
